Scherpenheuvel-Zichem extends across 50 square kilometers of land with residential areas, commercial zones, and natural spaces at 66 meters above sea level.

The municipality formed through the consolidation of five distinct communities: Averbode, Messelbroek, Scherpenheuvel, Testelt, and Zichem during the Belgian municipal reforms.
