Marais d’Harchies – Hensies – Pommerœul

The Marais d'Harchies spans 550 hectares of wetlands with extensive water bodies, reed beds, and diverse ecological zones supporting numerous plant and animal species.

The wetland area received international recognition through its designation as a Ramsar site, marking its global significance for water management and wildlife protection.

The Regional Center for Environmental Education at Harchies coordinates educational programs and guided tours to inform visitors about wetland conservation and natural heritage.

Two marked walking circuits of 4.8 and 6.7 kilometers guide visitors through the reserve, with seven observation points positioned for optimal wildlife viewing.

The marshes host 306 recorded bird species throughout the year, making it the largest concentration of water birds in the Walloon region.
