Sint-Pieterskapel

Sint-Pieterskapel is a small chapel built in Romanesque style with stone walls and medallions of saints painted on its wooden ceiling. The interior displays traditional architectural elements of this period with artistic details throughout the windows and walls.

The chapel was built around 1225 in stone, replacing an earlier wooden structure from the 8th century. Following serious damage during World War I, it was reconstructed in 1922.

The chapel bears the names of two saints connected to the town, and their stories appear in the stained glass windows with religious scenes. You can observe these details as you walk through and take in the artistic work throughout the interior.

The chapel is located in central Lier and easy to reach on foot. It is normally open during daytime hours, but it is wise to check exact opening times beforehand as these may vary.

An empty tomb behind the altar serves as a memorial to a lost saint and holds its own story. This quiet monument draws many visitors who are curious about the hidden histories of the place.
