Heilig Hartkerk, Protected church building in Lier, Belgium
Heilig Hartkerk is a protected church building organized into three naves with a transept and pentagonal choir closure. A striking tower topped with a monumental cross rises prominently above the structure.
Architect Flor Van Reeth designed this modern church building, which was constructed between 1937 and 1939. It stands as his final religious architectural project.
The interior displays multiple art forms, including stained glass windows created by Jan Huet and a large carved relief called 'The Good Shepherd' by Karel Aubroeck. These pieces shape the visual experience throughout the space.
The building reopened to visitors in May 2022 following major restoration work. Regular services take place within the Rupel-Nete deanery of Antwerp diocese.
Since 2023, the building serves both religious and cultural functions, blending its spiritual role with artistic events. This dual purpose brings unexpected variety to the space.
