Palma bullring, Historic bullring in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.
Palma bullring is a circular Neo-Mudéjar building on Gaspar Bennasar Avenue, featuring four towers placed at the cardinal points of the structure. It can hold around 11,600 spectators and today serves mainly as a concert and event venue.
Architect Gaspar Bennasar designed the arena to replace an earlier structure, and it opened on July 21, 1929. It stands as one of the last large public buildings completed in Palma before the Spanish Civil War.
The arena is used today mainly for concerts and large public events, which shows how entertainment habits in Palma have shifted over the decades. Visitors stepping inside find a space built for one kind of spectacle that now hosts a very different kind of crowd.
The building is centrally located in Palma and easy to reach on foot or by public transport. During large concerts or events, arriving early is a good idea as the surrounding area gets very busy.
The German television show 'Wetten, dass..?' was recorded here several times and broadcast to millions of households in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. These recordings made the building familiar to audiences in a country that has no connection to bullfighting.
