Rubí, Municipality in Vallès Occidental, Catalonia.
Rubí is a town in Barcelona Province in Catalonia, located roughly 15 kilometers northwest of the Catalan capital. The urban area covers mostly flat terrain with gentle hills and borders several neighboring municipalities in Vallès Occidental.
The settlement was first documented in 986 and stood in a frontier zone between Moorish and Christian territories. During the 20th century, the municipality shifted from a rural settlement to an industrial center with a growing population.
The name derives from the Latin expression for reddish stream, referring to the iron-tinted color of the water. Locals often visit the weekly market, held in the town center for centuries, offering regional products.
The municipality is reachable by commuter train line S4 from Barcelona, with the station located centrally in town. Several bus lines connect the center with surrounding residential areas and neighboring towns.
In the 1960s, a flood led to a fundamental reorganization of land use along the local stream. Today, only a few agricultural areas remain as reminders of the former character of the region.
