Pico Almanzor

Pico Almanzor is a mountain peak reaching 2,591 meters and the highest granite summit in Spain's central mountain range. The terrain consists of rocky ground and marked trails that make reaching the top possible.

The mountain was named after a leader from the Arab period who explored this mountain region between 900 and 1000 AD. The first recorded ascent took place in 1899 and marked an important moment in Spanish mountaineering history.

The mountain's name comes from a Moorish leader who traveled through the region around a thousand years ago. Visitors find various markers that show how this place has held meaning over many generations.

The route from the parking area to the summit requires stamina and goes over steep, rocky sections. It is wise to wear good footwear and start early to have enough daylight for the journey.

An iron cross has stood at the summit since 1960, and a letterbox from 1918 remains there as well. These two objects tell different stories from separate periods of climbing culture.
