Pico Almanzor, Mountain summit in Sierra de Gredos, Spain.

Pico Almanzor rises to 2,591 meters as the highest granite peak in the Sistema Central mountain range of central Spain.

The mountain received its name from Moorish leader Almanzor who explored the Sierra region between 900 and 1000 AD during the Arab occupation.

M. González de Amezúa and José Ibrián completed the first recorded climb of Pico Almanzor in September 1899, marking a milestone in Spanish mountaineering.

The ascent from Plataforma requires a challenging 18-kilometer round trip with 1,200 meters elevation gain through marked paths and rocky terrain.

A one-meter iron cross stands at the summit since 1960, while a letterbox placed in 1918 remains at the mountain peak.
