La Mira

La Mira is a summit in the Sierra de Gredos standing at 2343 meters, marked by moderate trails on its northern slope and steep rocky cliffs on its southern face. The varied terrain makes it an interesting destination for hikers of different skill levels.

Late in the 1700s, engineers built an optical telegraph station at the peak, leaving behind a cylindrical platform structure that remains visible today. This installation reflects the summit's historical role in regional communication.

The summit sits between Circo de Gredos and Puerto del Pico, serving as a landmark for the local mountaineering community in central Spain. Its position and name have become part of the identity for people who regularly explore this mountain range.

Two main routes lead to the summit: the northern path from Plataforma de Gredos and the southern trail starting near Nogal del Barranco, each suited to different skill levels. The southern route is notably steeper and more demanding than the northern approach.

A natural spring on the northern slope regularly attracts herds of ibex, making this location excellent for watching these wild mountain goats. With patience and an early arrival, visitors can observe the animals from a safe distance.
