Fuenlabrada, Urban municipality in southern Madrid metropolitan area, Spain
Fuenlabrada is a municipality south of Madrid that spreads across a plateau in the Community of Madrid. The settlement consists of multiple residential neighborhoods, commercial areas, and educational institutions organized around wide avenues and public squares.
The settlement was established in 1315 through the merger of several smaller villages including Loranca, Albas, and Fregacedos. During the second half of the 20th century the town grew rapidly and developed from a small village into a major city south of the Madrid region.
The name derives from springs that once flowed through this area and provided water to early settlers. Today a network of parks and pedestrian paths connects residential districts and creates walking routes throughout the town.
The town connects to Madrid through several metro stations and two suburban train stations, and major highways pass through the area. Visitors arriving by car can find parking in residential neighborhoods and near shopping centers.
In just a few decades the population grew from a small village community to over 190,000 residents. This rapid expansion made the town one of the fastest growing municipalities in all of Spain.
