Community of Madrid Sports Centre, Indoor sports arena in Goya district, Spain
The sports centre is a multipurpose indoor arena in the Goya district used for basketball, concerts and other large events. Stands can be reconfigured depending on the occasion, offering space for anywhere between a few thousand and more than 17,000 people.
The facility was built during the 1960s and initially served as a dedicated sports hall. After a fire in 2001, a complete reconstruction followed, finished in 2005, introducing modern standards for all kinds of events.
The arena takes its name from the autonomous region that funds and manages it, making it a reference point for regional sports events. Visitors experience Spanish league basketball games and international competitions here, where fans fill the entire building with chants and rhythmic clapping.
Access is through several entrances around the building, opened depending on ticket area on event days. Those arriving by metro reach the hall after a short walk from different stations in the Salamanca district.
The site once held the Plaza de Toros de Goya, a 19th-century bullring that operated until 1931. The shift from bullfighting to modern sport shows the change in urban entertainment over the decades.
