Palmitos Park, Botanical garden and aviary in Maspalomas, Spain

Palmitos Park is a large garden with aviaries and dolphin areas in southern Gran Canaria, home to over 1,500 birds from more than 200 species. The grounds also feature tropical plants, butterflies housed in dedicated structures, and orchids displayed throughout the facility.

The park suffered widespread fires in 2007 that caused major damage and forced temporary closure. It reopened to visitors in 2008 after being restored and reconstructed.

The park serves as a place where visitors can observe tropical wildlife and plants in settings that reflect their natural habitats. People come here to connect with nature and learn how different species fit into their ecosystems through hands-on experiences and daily demonstrations.

The best time to visit is in the morning when animals are more active and the grounds are less crowded. Bring sun protection and comfortable walking shoes, as the grounds are large and involve considerable walking.

The park houses one of Europe's largest butterfly collections in dedicated areas where the insects fly freely. The orchid variety here is also exceptional and draws plant enthusiasts from across the region.
