Mundo Aborigen, Open-air museum in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Spain
Mundo Aborigen is an open-air museum in San Bartolomé de Tirajana that displays more than 100 life-size figures representing daily activities of ancient inhabitants across different themed zones in the Fataga Valley landscape. The exhibition spreads across the grounds and provides a sense of how these early people lived.
This site was established in 1994 as an educational center documenting the settlements and living conditions of the Guanches, the original inhabitants of the Canary Islands. The displays are based on archaeological findings about this prehistoric population.
The site presents traditional Canarian practices through authentic replicas of pottery workshops, hunting techniques, and agricultural methods that indigenous communities once used.
Visitors can join guided tours, access parking facilities, and find rest areas while observing native animals like dogs, pigs, and goats throughout the grounds. Wear comfortable shoes since the terrain is uneven and pathways spread across the entire property.
The grounds integrate natural elements of Ayagaures Natural Park to create an authentic representation of prehistoric Canarian environments. This inclusion of the actual landscape helps visitors understand how closely these people were connected to their surroundings.
