Yecla, Wine region in Murcia, Spain

Located at altitudes between 400 to 800 meters, Yecla's vineyards spread across 4,830 hectares in a transition zone between Mediterranean and central Spanish plateaux.

Archaeological findings confirm that wine production in Yecla started over 2000 years ago when Romans introduced viticulture to this region.

The Monastrell grape dominates 80 percent of vineyard plantings, making Yecla a reference point for this variety in Spanish wine production.

The region divides into two zones: Campo Arriba at higher elevations producing concentrated reds and Campo Abajo at lower altitudes specializing in white wines.

Yecla exports 92 percent of its production internationally, representing the highest export rate among all Spanish wine denominations.
