Sierra del Carche

The Sierra del Carche is a mountain summit reaching 1,372 meters with limestone rock formations and Mediterranean vegetation covering its slopes and ridges. The varied terrain creates different habitats across the mountain's structure.

The area served as a strategic lookout point since prehistoric times, with archaeological remains showing human settlements around its base across different periods. This long history of occupation shows its importance to people over the ages.

The villages nearby have preserved traditions of olive farming on the lower slopes, where local people have worked the land for generations. This agricultural practice shapes how the mountain is used and remains part of daily life in the area.

The mountain can be reached by several well-marked hiking trails, with the main route from the eastern side taking about four hours for a round trip. It is wise to wear sturdy hiking boots and bring plenty of water, especially on warmer days.

Its position creates a special microclimate that supports rare plants, including several orchid species found only in this region of Spain. Visitors may spot delicate wildflowers on the trails that grow nowhere else in the country.
