Alonsotegi

Alonsótegui is a municipality in Greater Bilbao situated in the Cadagua River valley, about 8 kilometers north of downtown. It connects to neighboring areas via Highway BI-636, which follows the river corridor through the region.

The town became independent in the 16th century but was merged with Baracaldo in 1888. It regained its separate status on January 1, 1991, when it reestablished itself as an autonomous municipality.

Both Spanish and Basque are spoken daily in the town. Local residents maintain strong ties to regional traditions and local customs that shape daily life.
