Conil de la Frontera, Coastal municipality in Cádiz Province, southern Spain.
Conil de la Frontera is a municipality on the Atlantic coast in Cádiz Province, southern Spain, where white sand meets limestone cliffs. The coastline alternates between wide beaches and small sheltered coves across a stretch of roughly 16 kilometers.
Phoenicians founded the first settlements here around 1500 BC and introduced tuna fishing techniques that shaped the economy for centuries. The frontier position between Christian and Moorish territories during the Middle Ages gave the place its current name.
The old town retains white houses and narrow lanes where neighbors meet on plazas and cafés place tables on the cobblestones. Fishermen often sell their catch directly at the harbor while families stroll through shaded streets in the afternoon.
The place becomes much busier in summer when the number of people multiplies and many beach sections fill up. Outside the high season between June and September you will find quieter beaches and more space in restaurants.
Six different beaches spread along the coast, from long open stretches of sand like Playa los Bateles to hidden coves like Cala del Aceite. Each bay has its own character, some with calm water, others with stronger surf.
