Mónsul Beach

Description

Mónsul Beach is a 300-meter stretch of shoreline with dark volcanic sand in a protected natural area. Large rock formations jutting into the sea create a distinctive landscape along the coastline.

History

The natural park was established in 1989, protecting the beach from building projects and development. This safeguarding allowed the shoreline to remain largely undisturbed.

Culture

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade filmed scenes at Mónsul Beach, including the sequence where Sean Connery causes a plane crash.

Practical

You can reach the beach on foot via a forest path that starts from the village of San José, roughly 4 kilometers away. Parking is available just 200 meters from the shoreline.

Did you know?
