The Igeldo lighthouse is situated on the slope of Monte Igeldo overlooking the bay and stands about 13 meters tall. It marks the rocky coastline and guides vessels traveling through the waters surrounding San Sebastián.
The lighthouse was built in 1855 by civil engineer Manuel Peironcely to prevent accidents near the dangerous cliffs. Its construction reflects efforts in the 1800s to improve safety for ships traveling along the Basque coast.
