Villaviciosa

The municipality of Villaviciosa extends across 276 square kilometers of land, featuring valleys, mountains, and a natural inlet connecting to the Bay of Biscay.

King Alfonso X established the settlement in 1270 through an official document for Buetes, marking the start of population growth in the thirteenth century.

The region maintains 41 religious structures, including the Church of Santa María de Villaviciosa from the thirteenth century and the Valdediós convent from the eighth century.
