Casa de los Picos

Casa de los Picos is a mansion in Segovia featuring a facade of 617 granite blocks carved into pyramid shapes across its entire surface, creating a distinct geometric pattern. Inside, a Renaissance courtyard with Talavera tiles now serves as part of the Segovia Art School, which hosts regular exhibitions.

Built in the late 15th century by Pedro López de Ayala, the mansion originally served as a defensive structure near the San Martin Gate in the heart of Segovia. The building later transitioned to become an important institutional space in the city's cultural landscape.

The Renaissance courtyard displays Talavera tiles showing different landmarks of Segovia, connecting the building to the region's artistic traditions. These tiles were created by craftspeople who understood both local history and decorative craft.

The building is easily located in Segovia's historic center from Juan Bravo Street, making it convenient to reach. Visit outside peak hours for a more relaxed experience viewing the exhibitions and courtyard.

The facade features approximately 360 pointed granite protrusions, beneath one of which local tales suggest a hidden medieval treasure lies buried. This legend has captivated visitors across generations and adds to the mysterious appeal of the building.
