Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Art museum in Montjuïc, Spain
The museum occupies the Palau Nacional building on Montjuïc hill, displaying collections of Romanesque church paintings and Catalan art from different periods.
The museum started operating in November 1934 and underwent substantial renovations between 1995 and 2004 under architects Gae Aulenti and Enric Steegmann.
The collections include murals from rural churches across Old Catalonia, Gothic art from several regions, and pieces from Renaissance through modern periods.
The museum contains a research library with extensive resources related to art history, photography, and numismatics, supporting students and researchers.
The numismatic collection presents 134,000 pieces of currency, documenting the economic evolution of Catalonia from ancient times to modern periods.
