Ezcaray, Administrative division in La Rioja, Spain

Ezcaray is a municipality in La Rioja in northern Spain, nestled in the Oja Valley at the base of San Lorenzo peak. The town sits at 814 meters elevation with stone buildings clustered along the valley floor and hillsides.

The settlement grew as a valley community and later became known for the Royal Cloth Factory, which produced fabrics for Spain. This textile works shaped the town's economy for generations.

The Church of Santa María la Mayor displays Gothic and Renaissance styles side by side in its structure. Walking through town, you notice how these different building approaches shaped local construction over time.

The town serves as a gateway to the nearby Valdezcaray ski area, located less than 15 kilometers away. It sits conveniently for hiking and exploring the mountain region, whether you visit during snowy winters or warmer seasons.

The name Ezcaray comes from the Basque language, marking an old linguistic connection between this region and the Basque Country. This naming hints at how cultural influences once crossed the borders between these mountain areas.
