Los Alcázares, Coastal municipality in the Region of Murcia, Spain.
Los Alcázares is a coastal municipality located on the western shore of the Mar Menor lagoon in southeastern Spain, covering approximately 20 square kilometers at an elevation of 6 meters above sea level.
The town traces its origins to Roman times around 210 B.C., when salt extraction and fishing industries were established, later developing during Arab rule when palaces were built to utilize the natural thermal springs.
The municipality celebrates its independence with a week-long festival in October featuring music and water sports competitions, along with a medieval market in March and the La Huerta folklore festival in August.
Los Alcázares offers multiple golf courses including Roda Golf and La Serena Golf, proximity to Murcia San Javier Airport, and extensive beach facilities that have historically maintained Blue Flag environmental standards.
The town established Spain's first military flying boat base in 1915 due to the sheltered conditions of the Mar Menor, which now houses an aviation museum displaying historical aircraft and artifacts.
