Playa de Las Teresitas, Public beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain.
Playa de Las Teresitas is a beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Tenerife, stretching 1300 meters along the coast and covered with pale sand brought from the Sahara. A breakwater offshore protects the swimming area and keeps the water calm across the bay.
Engineers transformed the shoreline in 1973 by bringing pale sand from Western Sahara and building barriers to create safer swimming conditions. This work changed a rocky shore into a protected bathing bay for residents and visitors.
Fishermen from the nearby village of San Andrés work at the northern end, where they land their boats in the morning and offer their fresh catch. The palms along the shore create shaded areas where families picnic and rest throughout the day.
The beach offers showers, toilets, changing rooms, and parking along the access road, with lifeguards on duty during the main season. Several cafés and restaurants stand within walking distance, and a wide pedestrian path connects the entire waterfront.
More than 200 palm trees line the entire shore, offering natural shade zones between the sand and the promenade. The pale color of the sand contrasts sharply with the dark volcanic beaches found elsewhere on Tenerife.
