Gran Encantat, Mountain summit in Aigüestortes National Park, Spain
Gran Encantat is a summit in Aigüestortes National Park that rises to 2,748 meters (9,016 feet) above sea level. Two limestone peaks dominate the landscape above Sant Maurici Lake in the heart of the Pyrenean range.
The mountain formed from ancient Devonian limestone deposits that contrast with the surrounding granitic rock of the Pyrenean range. This geological contrast has shaped the peak's structure over millions of years.
The peak belongs to the list of 100 recognized summits by the Catalan Mountaineering Federation, representing a significant achievement for mountain climbers.
Access to the summit is typically made through the Refugi Ernest Mallafré mountain shelter, which serves as a base for the climb. Visitors should be experienced climbers with solid fitness levels to safely reach the top.
The mountain presents a geological composition where limestone peaks emerge from granitic foundations, creating specific climbing conditions across different rock types.
