Pic de Subenuix, Mountain summit in Pyrenees, Spain.
Pic de Subenuix is a mountain summit in the Pyrenees located in Catalonia and stands at approximately 2,950 meters (9,678 feet) above sea level. The peak sits where three valleys converge, offering views across the surrounding high-altitude landscape.
Shepherding communities occupied these high-altitude pastures for centuries, using the mountain slopes seasonally for grazing animals. This pastoral tradition shaped how the region was used and traveled across the landscape.
The Federación d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya recognizes Pic de Subenuix among its selection of 100 significant mountain peaks for climbing certification.
The mountain is reached via marked trails starting from Aigüestortes National Park and requires proper climbing gear and stable weather. The best time to visit is between June and September when snow has melted and conditions are most favorable for safe travel.
From the summit, visitors can see approximately 27 lakes scattered across the surrounding valleys below. This rare concentration of mountain lakes creates a natural vantage point for observing the water systems that feed the high-altitude region.
