The Church of Santa María de Vizbayo consists of a single nave with a semicircular apse, featuring distinctive cut horseshoe arches and irregular stone construction.
Built at the end of the 11th century, this religious structure reflects the architectural transition from pre-Romanesque to Romanesque styles in northern Spain.
The interior contains a 16th-century Christ figure and images of Saints Cosme and Damián wearing garments from the 17th-century Castilian school.
Visitors need to cross the medieval Puente Boeza bridge from Ponferrada and turn right onto an ascending road to reach the church.
The remarkable window at the church's head includes geometric designs that demonstrate the influence of Mozarabic art on Romanesque architecture.
