Gamonal

Gamonal is a residential neighborhood in Burgos featuring modern high-rise buildings and commercial centers spread across flat terrain. Three rivers—the Arlanzón, Vena, and Pico—flow through the area, and the district has a well-developed urban infrastructure with numerous shops and services.

The neighborhood was an independent municipality called Gamonal de Río Pico until its merger with Burgos in 1955. This incorporation transformed the area from a rural settlement into an urban district.

The Santa María la Real y Antigua church marks the neighborhood and connects residents to its religious past. Visitors can experience this spiritual landmark within a contemporary residential setting.

The neighborhood has good public transportation connections, making it easy to get around. Calle Vitoria, the main street, concentrates most of the shops and facilities, so it's worth exploring on foot.

The name comes from asphodel fields that once grew there as animal feed during agricultural times. This botanical past is barely visible today but shaped the neighborhood's identity.
