Las Llanas Municipal Stadium, Football stadium in Sestao, Spain.
Las Llanas Municipal Stadium is a football ground in Sestao, a town in the greater Bilbao area of the Basque Country. It has two covered stands, a main tribune and an east preference stand, along with changing rooms, press rooms, and snack facilities for spectators.
The ground opened in September 1923 with a match between Athletic Club and the local side, which Athletic Club won 3-1. It has served as Sestao's main football venue for over a century since that first game.
The stadium is the home ground of Sestao River Club, and on match days it draws supporters from across the town and nearby parts of the Basque Country. The two covered stands fill quickly, giving the ground a close and direct feel between the crowd and the pitch.
The stadium has two main entrances, and the covered stands provide shelter when the weather turns bad. Arriving a little early on match days is a good idea, as the capacity is limited and the best spots fill up fast.
In 1956, the city of Sestao took ownership of the ground through expropriation, turning a privately held venue into a public one. For a small-town football ground in Spain at that time, this kind of transfer to municipal ownership was fairly rare.
