Torre Banco de Vizcaya, Corporate tower in Gran Vía D. Diego López de Haro, Bilbao, Spain
Torre Banco de Vizcaya is an office tower on Gran Vía D. Diego López de Haro in Bilbao, Spain, rising about 88 meters (290 feet) across 21 floors. Its facade is a glass curtain wall with a pale pink tone that changes in appearance depending on the light.
The tower opened in April 1969 as the headquarters of one of the Basque Country's largest banks and held the title of Bilbao's tallest building for decades. It kept that position until 2009, when a newer structure surpassed it.
The tower stands on Gran Vía, Bilbao's main commercial street, where office workers, bank employees, and passersby share the same busy pavements. The street gives a clear sense of how the city conducts its daily working life.
The building is right next to Abando Metro station, which connects to most parts of Bilbao and nearby towns without needing a transfer. Those on foot will find other points of interest along Gran Vía within easy walking distance.
A 2021 renovation replaced over a thousand windows and brought back the pale pink tone of the facade, which had faded over the decades. The result is clearly visible from street level, especially when sunlight hits the glass directly.
