Cueva Eirós

The limestone cave extends deep into the mountain with multiple chambers containing extensive stalactite and stalagmite formations throughout its passages.

Archaeological excavations in the cave have revealed evidence of both Neanderthal and early modern human occupation dating back more than 35,000 years.

The cave walls display Paleolithic art, making it the most western example of such artwork in the Cantabrian region and the only known site in Galicia.

Access to the cave requires advance arrangements through local authorities and proper safety equipment due to the challenging terrain and preservation requirements.

The cave contains the only archaeological sequence in northwestern Spain that documents the transition between Neanderthals and modern humans.
