Bridge of Cruzul

Bridge of Cruzul, Neoclassical bridge in Becerreá, Spain

The Bridge of Cruzul is a limestone structure featuring three semicircular arches that cross the Narón River in the region. The stone blocks form a solid archway construction that remains a prominent element in the local landscape.

The bridge was built between 1776 and 1778 by engineer Carlos Lemaur as part of a royal initiative to improve communication routes across the region. This construction represented an important step forward in infrastructure development during that period.

Local residents gathered at the bridge during carnival celebrations dressed as guerrilla fighters, carrying weapons recovered from the Napoleonic period.

The bridge remains accessible today for local traffic, though a newer route now carries most through traffic in the area. Visitors can approach it from either riverbank and cross on foot to view its construction up close.

Over one thousand French rifles were discovered near the bridge during the Independence War, with some specimens still preserved in the Os Ancares region.
