Fundación Yannick i Ben Jakober, Art museum in Alcúdia, Spain
The Fundación Yannick i Ben Jakober is an art museum in Alcúdia with extensive galleries, sculpture gardens, and architecture influenced by Moroccan design. The buildings integrate into the Mallorcan landscape and blend traditional design elements with modern exhibition spaces.
The museum was founded in 1993 by artists Yannick Vu and Ben Jakober and developed as a personal art project. The building received Listed Building status from the Balearic government in 2011.
The museum displays more than 150 portraits of noble children from earlier centuries within a converted water reservoir. This collection offers a particular perspective on childhood and social status as seen through art.
Plan your visit on weekdays when fewer people are around and you can take your time exploring the gardens and galleries. Comfortable shoes are important since pathways lead through both indoor exhibition spaces and outdoor areas.
A special exhibition space houses a completely fossilized skeleton of a Siberian woolly rhinoceros displayed alongside modern art installations. This unusual pairing connects prehistoric natural history with contemporary artistic creation.
