Jabalcón

Jabalcón is an isolated limestone summit in the Province of Granada with steep rock faces and communication towers crowning its peak. The mountain rises to about 1,494 meters and provides sweeping views across the surrounding landscape from its top.

The mountain served as a strategic observation point across different periods, from ancient settlements through the Moorish era on the Iberian Peninsula. Its elevated position made it valuable for controlling the surrounding territory.

Local residents celebrate religious festivals at the mountain's summit church, combining spiritual traditions with natural surroundings in meaningful ceremonies.

Multiple hiking trails lead from the nearby town of Zújar to the summit, with the eastern route offering the most direct access. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring plenty of water, as the climb is demanding and sun exposure increases at higher elevations.

Natural thermal springs emerge at the mountain's base, maintaining constant temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius throughout the year. These geothermal waters form a surprising contrast to the dry rock landscape at higher elevations.
