Church of Saint Dominic, Romanesque church in Soria, Spain.

Church of Saint Dominic is a Romanesque religious building in Soria featuring a western facade with blind arches and a central entrance decorated with carved stone elements. Inside, three parallel naves are separated by double-pointed arches, with side aisles covered by barrel vaults that create the structural framework.

Originally dedicated to Saint Thomas, the building was reconstructed during the reign of King Alfonso VIII, incorporating architectural styles from the Poitou region of France. This renovation demonstrates how medieval design trends traveled from northern France to the Iberian Peninsula.

The capitals throughout the building feature carvings of mythological creatures, warriors, and plants, showing what captured the imagination of medieval craftspeople. These decorative details reveal how local artisans blended storytelling with their work on stone.

The interior is accessible and best experienced by walking through the central nave to observe how the different vault types support the ceiling above. Visiting during daylight hours allows you to see the stone carving details on the capitals more clearly as light enters through the openings.

Two sculptured figures beneath horseshoe arches on the portal spandrels show King Alfonso VIII and Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine, a rare combination for a regional church. This unusual choice reveals how local rulers embedded their own likenesses into the building's design to display their French connections.
