Walls and gates of Plasencia

The Walls and Gates of Plasencia are a medieval stone fortification that extends several kilometers around the city and features multiple entrances such as the Berrozana Gate and the Sun Gate. The structure consists of massive stone blocks and incorporates various buildings that were constructed over different periods.

This fortification was built in 1197 to protect the city from attacks and control passage through strategic checkpoints. The walls were reinforced and rebuilt multiple times over the centuries to adapt to changing military needs.

The walls are woven into the daily life of the city, as residents live in houses built directly into the fortification structure. At many points you can see how medieval elements and modern dwellings coexist and shape the character of the place.

You can explore various sections of the walls on foot, with many areas freely accessible and offering views of the ancient construction methods. The Torre Lucía provides additional information about the history and architecture of the fortification.
