Palacio de Monroy, Medieval palace in Plasencia, Spain
Palacio de Monroy is a medieval palace marked by a Gothic entrance decorated with lion carvings and a remaining square tower. Its stone walls display large neo-Gothic windows that give the structure its distinctive character.
The structure was built in the 14th century as the residence of the influential Monroy family. During the 15th century, control passed to the Carvajal family after the Casa de Zuniga took over the property.
Maria Rodriguez de Monroy was born within these walls and later became a notable figure in Salamanca's medieval history. Her connection to the palace reflects the importance of the family during that era.
The palace is located at Plaza de San Nicolas 1 in central Plasencia, just a short walk from Plaza Mayor. Its central position makes it easy to visit on foot as part of a walking tour of the city.
The palace's southern tower collapsed during the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and was later demolished. A glass photograph preserves the memory of the building's original appearance.
