Parque Marítimo del Mediterráneo
Parque Marítimo del Mediterráneo is a leisure resort in Ceuta featuring saltwater lakes, tropical gardens, and cascades covering around 57000 square meters. Three large pools are surrounded by palm trees and plants, while a replica of the city's Royal Walls serves as a central structure with bars, restaurants, and swimming areas.
The park opened in 1995 and was designed by César Manrique, a renowned artist from Lanzarote who sought to blend art with nature. His design drew inspiration from a similar project in Tenerife, creating a place where both elements coexist harmoniously.
The park brings together plants from five continents, featuring tropical vegetation, cacti, and ancient ferns that create a living collection. Visitors can see a centuries-old olive tree and a characteristic Canary Island dragon tree, making it a place where horticultural heritage is on display.
The park opens daily from 11 AM with separate areas for children and adults monitored by lifeguards for safety. Access is convenient by public transport or car, and dining options range from casual tapas bars to full-service restaurants spread throughout the grounds.
The lake water is pumped directly from the sea, creating a rare blend of marine environment and artificial park design. A geyser in the central lake periodically erupts, providing an unexpected natural spectacle within the carefully constructed space.
