Centro de Documentación Musical de Andalucía, library in Spain
The Centro de Documentación Musical de Andalucía is an archive and library housed in a historic Renaissance palace dating from the late 16th or early 17th century in Granada. The collection includes scores, recordings, manuscripts, and historical documents that document the musical history of the region.
The building dates from the late 16th or early 17th century and originally served as a residential building for multiple families. The Junta de Andalucía began restoration work in 1985, completing it in 1997 and revealing the original hand-painted Venetian brick facade.
The center preserves the musical identity of Andalusia and shows how music is rooted in local culture. Visitors can see how the region keeps its musical traditions alive through the collection of scores, recordings, and manuscripts.
The center is located at Carrera del Darro 29, accessible by several bus lines to Plaza Nueva. Opening hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and visitors need to register with proof of interest in music.
During the 1997 restoration, the original hand-painted Venetian brick facade was discovered beneath multiple layers of paint, making it the only building in Granada with this distinctive late Renaissance style. This rare architectural detail reveals European influences of the period.
