Presó Model de València, Former administrative building in Nou Moles, Spain.
Presó Model de València is a former administrative building in Nou Moles featuring a radial layout where four wings extend from a central point following Philadelphia prison system design principles. This arrangement creates a clearly structured, symmetrical complex with classical and eclectic architectural elements throughout.
Built between 1889 and 1901 under architect Joaquín María Belda's direction, the structure served as a correctional facility until its closure in 1991. After extensive renovations in 2008, it was converted into a modern administrative center for regional government operations.
The building displays a blend of classical and eclectic style elements typical of late 19th-century Spanish institutional architecture. These design features continue to define the appearance of the current administrative center.
The site is accessible during business hours, though visitors can view the exterior to see the distinctive radial symmetric architecture. Note that this is an active administrative center with restrictions on access to internal areas.
The facility incorporated a panopticon design with guard towers positioned at each corner to monitor inmates independently. This revolutionary observation concept at the time prevented prisoners from interacting during courtyard periods.
