The Church of Santa María la Real features a single nave divided into five sections with ribbed vaulting and expertly crafted stone masonry.
Construction began in 1290 after King Sancho IV ordered a temple built where he discovered a Virgin statue while hunting with his falcon.
The tympanum displays biblical scenes including the Three Wise Men departing from Herod and the Adoration of Baby Jesus surrounded by religious figures.
The church opens its doors to visitors and maintains regular religious services, with special access during the annual Pentecost Monday pilgrimage.
The southern portal contains blind arcades housing sculptures of saints and biblical characters, with musicians playing apocalyptic instruments in the archivolts.
