Church of San Torcuato, Zamora, Baroque church in Zamora, Spain.
The Church of San Torcuato is a Baroque structure in Zamora with a Latin cross floor plan and east-facing entrance. Inside, decorated columns and rich stucco ornaments dominate the space and draw the eye toward the altar area.
The original church was founded in 1139 near the city walls, but the current building resulted from reconstruction in 1673. This transformation reused the spaces of a former Trinitarian monastery that once occupied the same site.
The main altarpiece, created by Antonio Tomé and Italian marble worker Andrés Verda in the early 18th century, displays numerous sculptures and reliefs.
This building is accessible via San Torcuato Street in central Zamora and maintains regular visiting hours. Visitors with questions can contact the parish to arrange access or learn about current opening times.
Excavations in 2007 uncovered remains of the original Romanesque church several meters away from the current structure in Plaza del Maestro. These discoveries show how this place has shifted location throughout its long history.
