Palacio de los Condes de Benavente, Valladolid, Renaissance palace in Plaza de la Trinidad, Valladolid, Spain.
The Palacio de los Condes de Benavente is a Renaissance building at Plaza de la Trinidad featuring two interior courtyards of different styles. A modern glass pavilion with a curved roof connects the historic sections and opens into the library spaces.
Construction started in 1515 under Alonso Pimentel, Count of Benavente, who built it as a noble residence. Royal visitor Felipe II stayed here in 1559, giving the palace political importance.
The palace displays its original Renaissance facade with shields of the Pimentel family carved into the stone. These symbols remain visible markers of the noble lineage that once resided here.
The building now functions as a public library accessible from Plaza de la Trinidad. Inside, the mix of historic walls and modern additions creates unexpected room layouts that may feel different from a typical museum.
The palace was rebuilt after two major fires destroyed parts of the structure in 1667 and 1716. These disasters prompted modern reconstruction methods that remain visible alongside the original Renaissance portions.
