Edificio Duque de Lerma, Modern residential tower in Huerta del Rey district, Valladolid, Spain
The Edificio Duque de Lerma is a residential building in the Huerta del Rey district with 24 floors and a height of 87 meters (285 feet). It accommodates approximately 120 apartments and features five elevators serving the units.
Construction began in 1970 as part of a planned three-tower development project but remained incomplete for decades. The building underwent major renovation work that continued until 1999 before finally opening as a residential complex.
During the 1980s, the unfinished building's facade displayed political messages and murals, reflecting social movements of that period in Spain.
The building offers views toward the Pisuerga River from the upper floors, where a top level was originally designed for a dining space. The complex sits in a residential area with good accessibility throughout the neighborhood.
The structure remained incomplete and abandoned as a bare framework for many years, facing multiple proposals for demolition before finding new purpose. This difficult history makes the building an unusual example of how long-stalled urban projects can eventually reach completion.
