Puente del Poniente, Valladolid, Arch bridge in Valladolid, Spain
The Puente del Poniente is an arch bridge crossing the Pisuerga River, supported by three large concrete arches and sturdy pillars. The structure uses reinforced concrete combined with stone cladding to create its framework.
The bridge was built starting in 1957 following a design by municipal engineer Luis Díaz-Caneja Pando. It arrived during a period when the city was developing its modern infrastructure.
The bridge links two popular green spaces that locals use regularly for walking and leisure. It serves as a gathering point where visitors can stop to view the river and access nearby gardens.
The bridge connects Isabel la Católica promenade to Vicente Mortes Avenue in the Huerta del Rey neighborhood. Visitors can walk across it easily or use it to access the parks on both sides.
The bridge received its current name in 2013 after locals voted for the name Puente del Poniente instead of its former designation. Few visitors realize the structure had a different official name for decades before this change.
