Castillo de Beselga, Medieval castle in Estivella, Spain

Castillo de Beselga is a fortress that stretches along a rocky ridge at about 220 meters elevation and features a three-story tower plus remains of a residential building. The structure sits on the northern slope of Garbí mountain and is marked by stone walls that still show the original layout.

The fortress was originally built as a Muslim fortification and underwent major renovations around 1499 under Gracià Monsoriu. Later it suffered damage during the Germanías Wars, which remains visible in the partially destroyed structures today.

The fortress shows how building methods in the Valencia region shifted from Islamic to Christian military design over time. Visitors can still read these layers of history in the stone structures today, which reflect different building periods.

Access to the fortress is through marked trails in Serra Calderona Natural Park, where informational panels explain what you are seeing. Wear sturdy shoes since the path crosses rocky ground and the elevation requires some effort.

The fortress sits on the northern slope of Garbí mountain and connects naturally to multiple hiking trails spreading across the protected landscape. This position made it a strategic point from which to watch over the surrounding land.
