The castle represents the architectural evolution from Islamic to Christian rule, particularly after the Order of Santiago took control of the fortress.
The fortress opens to visitors who can explore the keep, cellars, and largest water cistern, while following marked paths through the archaeological remains.
In 1620, the castle served as a prison for Don Rodrigo Calderón, who was transported there from Valladolid.
