Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Jara

The Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Jara is a small hermitage situated on a rural path outside Ibahernando in Extremadura. The sanctuary sits near a lagoon and houses a Mannerist image of the Virgin with Child inside.

The hermitage originated in the 16th century as a religious site in a rural area. The structure underwent modifications during the 18th and 19th centuries to strengthen and adapt it.

An annual pilgrimage brings people to honor the Virgin of La Jara in late April or early May, drawing visitors from surrounding communities. This regular gathering shows how important the site remains to the local population.

Access is via a rural path several kilometers southwest of Ibahernando, where visitors find simple walking routes. It helps to wear suitable shoes and allow time for the walk through the countryside.

Archaeological finds near the site suggest a Roman temple once stood where the hermitage now sits. These discoveries connect the location to a longer religious history that spans multiple centuries.
