Church of Santa María la Mayor, Gothic church in Trujillo, Spain
The church features three naves divided into sections, culminating in a polygonal apse with a cross vault ceiling decorated with tiercerons.
Construction began in the 13th century on the site of a former Moorish mosque after the Christian conquest of Trujillo in 1232.
The Gothic altarpiece created in Fernando Gállego's workshop consists of 25 panels depicting scenes from the Virgin Mary's life and Christ's passion.
The church opens daily from 10 AM to 2 PM and 5 PM to 9 PM during summer months, with adjusted hours during winter.
The tomb of Diego García de Paredes, known as the Samson of Extremadura, rests within the church walls.
