Alqueria del Duc

Alqueria del Duc is a 15th century fortified farmstead in Gandia featuring a square layout, four corner towers, and a central courtyard. The walls are built from irregular stone and mortar, while today the building serves as the city's Tourism Development Center with hospitality training programs.

The structure was built in the 15th century as a defensive installation against pirate raids that threatened the coast of this region at that time. Alfonso de Borja, an influential nobleman, acquired it in 1590 and fundamentally changed how it was used.

The building demonstrates how wealthy landowners in this region lived and managed their estates during earlier centuries. Its layout with corner towers and central courtyard was typical for fortified farmsteads that combined agricultural production with protection from raids.

The site features informational signs explaining the building's history and structure to help visitors understand what they are exploring. The courtyard and outer areas are accessible during certain hours, so it is best to check opening times before planning your visit.

The building now houses a Literary Creation Space where writers hold residencies to develop their work and experience local culture firsthand. This unusual use connects the site's old history with contemporary artistic creativity.
